ERYC Certificate

Certificate of Competence

The Certificate of Competence is for Dog owners and
has been devised to prove that the owner not only has basic knowledge
of the correct care of their four legged friend, but also has the ability to control
their dog, reaching a required standard of obedience.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council were so impressed with standards required
for the five different levels, that they endorsed the certificate.

We are the Only club authorised by the council to hold the
East Riding of Yorkshire Council endorsed tests.

These include Pet Standard, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Awards.

2008 Dates are now available on the News page.

The tests are open to club members
 and non members

The Tests

Starting at Pet Standard, the test comprises of 10 basic questions,
which every dog owner should know.
These include questions like
'How often should a dog be vaccinated?'
 and
'What should you do if your dog fouls in the street?'

Followed by a basic obedience test including Heelwork on and off lead,
a Sit Stay and Down Stay, a Recall to lead and a Temperament Test.
At this level we are not looking for precision, but your lead must not go tight.
You can talk and encourage your dog as much as you like except in the stays.

Next is the Bronze Award, this is were the precision starts,
and you will be marked down for crooked sits, dogs working wide,
in front or behind etc,  but you can still talk and encourage your dog
as much as you like except in the stays.
The Bronze includes the exercises Recall to front, Retrieve etc,
as well as Heelwork and Stays.

The Silver, Gold and Platinum Awards are judged to a high standard,
and include exercises like a Drop Recall, Recall to Heel and Distance Control,
Scent, along with Heelwork and Stays.

These Certificates are certainly worth working for,
proving you and your dogs ability to work as a team.

To date, only six owners and dogs have achieved the Platinum Award, These are;
Carol Sandry with Khyme, a very handsome crossbreed, who sadly is no longer with us.
Trevor Codd with Oscar a Boxer.
Maggie Harris with Nico a German Shepherd
Steve Denton with Max, a Golden Retriever
Dennis Henderson with Penny, a Labrador
Christine Tooke with Duke, a Border Collie.

They all came to the club just wanting to teach their dog some basic obedience
and ended up achieving much more!
